What is a single monk strap?

A monk strap closes with a buckle instead of laces, and the single is the quieter of the two. Ours is Goodyear welted by hand in Almansa, Spain, on a double leather sole that gives it presence underfoot, in black box calf or brown suede. It fits true to size – take the size you usually wear in dress shoes.

How to style a single monk strap

The buckle does the work of a lace without the formality, which puts the single monk between an oxford and a loafer. It holds a sharp suit and it holds denim, and it is the one to reach for when a lace-up feels like too much and a loafer like too little.
