our craft the espadrille

The Espadrille factory

Our factory is located in Caravaca de la Cruz, in the Southeast of Spain. It’s an important area of the ancient shoe culture and well known for its traditional local festivities, for example, Los Caballos del Vino, where horsemen, during the race, ran up the town’s hill in handmade espadrilles with jute soles.

The current production process maintains many parts of the traditional method - using jute, a tropical shrub, as one of its primary raw materials in a completely handmade manufacturing system.

What are espadrilles?

Espadrilles are one of the oldest shoe designs still in use: a breathable upper on a hand-braided jute sole, made for warm days at the beach or in town. The construction has barely changed, and ours is still sewn by hand in Southeast Spain using the same method. Read more about the history of the espadrille.

Our espadrille

We make it in supple suede and in organic canvas, GOTS certified. Each pair sits on a slightly elevated jute sole, which cushions the step and gives real support for a day spent on your feet. A reinforced heel counter keeps the shoe in shape and on the foot, a thin canvas lining adds structure, and the heel patch is suede. They fit true to size, so take the size you usually wear.

How to style espadrilles

Espadrilles for men are relaxed by nature – at their best with shorts, linen trousers or easy denim on warm evenings. Read more about how to style the Espadrille.
